Issue V1N4 of the new electronic APR (PDF file format on CD-ROM) features four article. The primary article in this issue is a 58-page article on the development of Project Orion. Issue V1N3 contained the first article in this series, describing internal-detonation nuclear pulse vehicle concepts. This article covers the initial development of Project Orion, from the earliest configurations through to the near-final designs, test facilities, safety and environmental issues, and subscale flight vehicles. Vehicle scaling relationships, operating principles, and, published for the first time, pulse unit physics and interactions.

Copiously illustrated with photos, film stills, presentation graphics, diagrams and original drawings.





The second article is a 5-page article by Dennis R. Jenkins about a turboprop-powered proposed variant of the B-36 bomber. Includes artwork and an all-new layout drawing.


Also included is a 7-page article by Bill Slayton on the 1942 Lockheed L-133 jet fighter design. Includes numerous layout, inboard and component drawings.


A 13-page article (including 2 larger-format pages) on Weapon System 118P, a 1956 program to develop a fast (Mach 3+) high altitude recon plane. A predecessor to the SR-71, the WS118P has not previously seen the light of publication. Presented here for the first time are photos, data and drawings of the Bell and North American proposals. Includes inboard profiles, performance data, the works.
